    How this estimator works

    The estimator combines distribution layout, feeder/final/motor route distances, machine loads, containment runs and optional planning-list rows. It groups lengths into material buckets — final-circuit, motor & control, feeder/sub-main and earthing/bonding cable, plus tray/ladder/trunking/busway containment.

    Material bucket = route quantities × bucket factor × (1 + reserve %)

    Safety

    Cable & containment depend on environment

    Wet/washdown, hazardous (Ex/ATEX), corrosive, high-ambient, outdoor, escape-route and fire-safety areas can require different cable, containment load class, routing, fire behaviour, protection and documentation decisions.

    Exclusions

    What this does not include

    No cable sizing/CSA, protective-device coordination, motor protection, busway rating, structural/containment load design, utility/transformer-side work, labour pricing, inspection or final compliance design is included.

    Industrial electrical planning notes

    Is this a bid or a material take-off?

    No. It produces planning-level material buckets for early scoping and discussion, not a priced bid or a code-compliant take-off. For a priced bid use a quantity take-off / estimating tool and a qualified estimator.

    How is this different from the Home Electrical Material Estimator?

    This industrial version assumes three-phase 400 V distribution with a main board plus sub-distribution boards and feeders between them, sub-main and motor/machine circuits, dedicated cable management (tray, ladder, trunking, busbar trunking) and heavier earthing/equipotential bonding — rather than single-phase domestic final circuits.

    What about cable sizing and protection?

    Out of scope here. Size conductors with the Cable Ampacity Calculatorand coordinate protective devices with the Fuse & Breaker Sizing tool, then have the design verified by a qualified electrical engineer.

    Worked example

    Scenario: a 400 V TN-S production hall — 1 main board + 3 sub-distribution boards, 25 final circuits (16 socket + 9 lighting), 6 motor circuits, ~120 m cable tray, 20% planning reserve.

    Cable buckets: final-circuit 800 m, motor & control 705 m, feeder/sub-main 215 m, earthing/bonding 220 m → 1,940 m total cable.

    Containment: tray 145 m, ladder 50 m, trunking 75 m, busway 30 m → 300 m total.

    Distribution: 1 + 3 boards, ~17 three-phase ways, ~41 protective devices, 9 motor-protection sets, module range 96–132.
