Method

What the calculator does

The estimator calculates permanent links from outlets and ports per outlet, then uses the average cable route, service loops, routing waste and offcut allowance to estimate total cable length and drum count.

Labor is estimated from a benchmark hours-per-link value based on access type, then adjusted by the labor overhead percentage and divided by productive hours, team size and working days.

Measure the designed cable path, not straight-line distance. Include tray, basket, riser, ceiling void, wall drop, conduit, raised-floor or floor-box route. Patch cords are entered separately.

What drives the estimate

Cable quantity is driven by links, route length, service loops, waste factor and offcut allowance. Spare capacity adds patch-panel ports only, not additional pulled cable.

Structured cabling notes

Can I use this for a full new installation?

This estimator is intended for expansion, addition and early planning scenarios. For a full new-installation design, use a qualified site survey and professional design review.

Why does spare capacity not add cable?

Spare port capacity represents empty patch-panel capacity for future use. It does not mean pulling speculative cable to unconnected outlets.

How accurate is the labor estimate?

The labor result is a planning benchmark, not a guarantee. Access restrictions, occupied buildings, ceiling conditions, testing quality and team experience can change the actual duration.

What if run lengths vary a lot?

Split the estimate by floor, zone or telecom room. One average can be misleading when some runs are short and others are close to the permanent-link limit.

Is labor cost included?

No. This estimator outputs technician-hours only. Apply your own hourly rate, contract model and regional pricing to calculate cost.
